Bob was sent by the Navy to Manitowoc, Wisconsin to become one of the original crew members of the submarine, Kracken SS370 which was built and launched there. He then served on it in action in the Pacific. All told, 28 similar ones were built and launched in Manitowoc during WWII. Pictured below are sister vessels in the same class as the Kracken
